I am posting occasional stories and thoughts here. And here is my art resume:
I spend most of my time running a business I helped start called Localvore.
I have also been making art in some form or another for the past 25 years. Much of my sculptural work focuses on whimsy, the study of harmonic geometry and the ephemeral.
I also play bass in two bands, Be-er and The So & So’s.
Snow Sculpture is team effort, and requires travel with heavy tools.
My visual art resume is most easily broken down into these three categories.
Snow Sculpting: I am the captain of an award winning snow sculpting team and have been making at least one large sculpture a year for the past 23 years. These are the years my team has won awards, that I can remember.
1999, 2009, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 – First Place– Vermont State Snow Sculpture Contest
2004, 2007 – Second Place – US National Snow Sculpture Competition – Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
2012 – First Place – US National Snow Sculpture Competition – Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
2016 – First Place – International Snow Sculpture Competition – Breckenridge Colorado
2019 – 3rd Place Award – US National Snow Sculpture Competition – Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
2021 Team Captain Michael Nedell was one of the professional sculptors on the Disney Channel’s TV Show “Best in Snow”.
Non-Snow Sculpting: I made outdoor sculptures for the Art Hop four, five or six non-consecutive years. I remember coming in second and third, two or three times. I built miniature golf courses with Amanda for a couple of years as well.
Interactive and Experiential: I’ve been on the Visual Design Crew for the past three Phish Festivals. I was on a crew once and managed crews twice.
Thanks for visiting.
